Overview

The Digital Maturity Assessment is an independent review for organisations deciding where to invest next, particularly those without a CIO or data team. DMS assesses eleven dimensions in person, drawing on a staff questionnaire, documents, interviews and workshops. It is a fixed price, runs 4 to 6 weeks (or 2 weeks for one workflow) and ends with costed recommendations presented to your leadership team.

The problem

Without a CIO or a data team, it is hard to tell which investment will do the most good next, and each vendor sells its own answer. You need independent evidence of where you stand, in priority order and with costs.

What you get

  • A maturity profile with a stage and rating for each of the eleven dimensions, scored separately for quality, alignment and confidence
  • An evidence summary and a stocktake of your systems, tools and data
  • A gap register, ranked by the objectives each gap blocks
  • Costed recommendations, each with the outcome, the indicative cost to implement and run, what it depends on and a lower-cost alternative
  • A presentation of the findings to your leadership team

Methodology

DMS leads an in-person audit at your organisation, reviewing files and agreed access to systems. We start from what you want to achieve and work back to the capabilities that matter.

  1. Confirm three to five organisational objectives with your sponsor.
  2. Set the target stage you want to reach, for example one stage higher within 12 months.
  3. Map the use cases behind each objective to the capabilities they depend on.
  4. Assess current maturity from four sources of evidence: a staff questionnaire, a document review, interviews and workshops. A missing document is recorded as a finding in its own right.
  5. Analyse the gap between current and target stage for each capability, and rank the gaps by the objectives they block.
  6. Plan the response as costed recommendations, each with an outcome, the cost to implement and run, its dependencies and a lower-cost alternative.

Confidence rises with the amount of verified evidence behind a rating. Perceptions are reported apart from verified findings, so the result reads as evidence rather than criticism. A focused assessment applies the same six steps to one workflow or business area.

Cost and timing

How it is bought

Fixed price, agreed before work starts, with the scope, duration and your staff time written down first. The full and focused assessments both include the costed recommendations and the findings presentation.

How long it takes
Whole-organisation assessment 4 to 6 weeks. Focused assessment 2 weeks.
Your team's time
For a whole-organisation assessment, your sponsor for about a day, 20 to 30 staff for the questionnaire, 6 to 10 interviews and two workshops. For a focused assessment, your sponsor for half a day, 3 to 5 interviews and one workshop.
